Took some photos of Miranda on our way to school the other morning. This one I think my favourite, although several together would make a nice sequence.

The Cat in the Hat

Just after she came home from school, and stuck a lollypop in her mouth, wearing the hat that Gregory has given her. I am guessing that his head has grown as he rather liked this hat, which still has a sticker on giving some advice (obviously not sartorial), and which remains fixed on the cap!

Mip has been on the beach at Lepe tonight with Brownies, so I went for a stroll and took a few more photos, just in case...;

Podium Places

She's fast, but today she met her match in the running race at Sports Day. She was every so slightly upset but we all know she's a champion in the making...

Cream tease

Nothing ever goes to waste when we eat, especially so when it's a cream tea after walking several miles along a dusty tow path. We walked from Bathampton into Bath did a tour around the city centre, and charged batteries at a nice cafe. Lots to see along the way, I can recommend it highly.

Monkey Bars

Miranda chucking herself around as quickly as Greg on the monkey bars, she's got good upper body strength. Greg's legs are getting a bit long so they drag on the floor if he's not careful. This was at Caldicot Castle on the weekend.

Another one bites the dust

Sorry, not family related really but just because the seventies would not have been the same without music like this concert... Tommy no more...

Woopsie

Some time ago we had a small visitor called Poppy who needed to be returned to the wild; this was quite a while ago, but never the less someone who looks very similar has come back to visit

Miranda caught him/her/it with the crabbing net and we took this little critter back too. He/she did not seem too bothered, indeed seemed to think it was all a game!

Yesterday Miranda and I found a slow worm on our travels and she was less interested in getting close to it. Dutifully I saved it from certain flattening on the road by encouraging him into my hat, whereupon it left a message for me. Miranda thought it was hilarious that I put my hat back on, on account of the sun shine being rather strong!!

A walk in the park

She shots as she moves with the ease of Gary Winogrand... I don't normally interfere too much, but sensing her ears were open thought I would make a few compositional suggestions. To which she replied, OK you take it then Dad, and we'll see whose are better..!

Cousins

There's something about that engagement between family, and I could tell instantly I was going to get an image or two. Otto looking up admiringly to his older cousin Gregory...

This photo a reminder to Chris that a wide angle lens (35mm f2 Nikkor) is a great tool for portraits, although traditional wisdom says use a telephoto lens. The tele isolates the subject from the background, whereas the wide includes the background as context. You just have to make sure you are distorting your subject

Watercolour

Just a painting that I found in Posie's book, so I am adding it as a reminder of the lovely paintings that Otto and Lola spent much time doing last week end.

Well done to those who really traveled to get there (Barcelona, Florence, Ingolstad.. you know who you are) but Dad really had a great day, and so did we all

Sort Out

The shed isn't big enough, and everyone has bigger bikes but this one still gets ridden around the garden in an ever decreasing state of road safety readiness. I was having a bit of a sort out, so it became time to part with this bike which has lasted us well

Harry Hippie

I am posting this to note the passing of the great Bobby Womack, so many great tunes this guy has entertained me and provoked me with down the years. Although I was into soul before I was into punk rock, I think he first came onto my radar via Robbie Vincent on Radio London when I was at Farnham. I bought The Poet on the strength of one track, and have never lost interest in his soulful voice... but it's gone.

Gone Camping

Blissfully quiet here at the moment as Miranda has gone camping with the Brownies in Brockenhurst. Last night there was a noticable gap, by tonight I am basking in the peace and quiet. Tomorrow it will all change.

I have been out with the boys sailing today. They want to get all the practice they can in, and with hindsight today was a bit windy. It was forecast as very light but from the time we arrive big black clouds and a very choppy sea told another story. Typically we had difficulty launching and they capsized twice before calling it a day in the first race, the second time really hard to right.

After the wind had died down a bit we went out again with me in the kayak as safety boat, my arms are aching a bit from trying to keep up with them and cover the ground. A few more messy aqueous sessions and we decided to call it a day - but all good experience nonetheless. No damage done.

Precarious

Greg can no longer just sit on the side and lean out! When the wind blows he has to be out on that wire as far as he can go or they will both be swimming!

Menace

Whilst the boys were sailing Miranda was stalking prey, and I just managed to catch the evil...!

Tonight we have been playing boules in the garden, all three kids and myself together, more or less harmoniously

Racing at Calshot on Sunday evening after a busy weekend against the backdrop of Cowes. Lewis has been doing his Duke of Edinburgh Bronze in the Forest, and I have been competing in the Round the Island Race, which we almost managed to finish being in sight of Cowes at the cut-off time of 10pm last night.

The boys are getting used to their new boat which is a bit of a handful, especially with an onshore wind. Greg taking to trapezing very well....

Hill Head Open Race Meeting

The boys have been racing at Hillhead today finishing in 9th place overall. Today's photo taken by Keith Willis from a kayak! Popsie and I entertained ourselves playing on the shore and eating as much tea and cake as we could manage...
